Redskins Run at Rim Rock

The Liberal Redskin cross country teams traveled to Lawrence, Kansas Saturday to compete at

the Rim Rock Classic. With over 150 schools from 9 different states competing in three different

divisions the Redskins were not only challenged by the competition but by a course known for its beauty

and its many tough hills for the runners. Both Redskin teams ran in the Crimson division which is

intended for most large size schools, good medium size schools, and strong small schools.

The girl’s team competed in a field of 40 teams. Camryn Slatten got off to a slow start but

quickly started making her way through the crowd as she ran her way to a podium finish with a time of

20:11 in 10

place. Saw Ahmara was the next Redskin to cross the line with a time of 21:30 in 53

Yanelly Jurado was the 100

runner to complete the course in a time of 22:24. While eight seconds

behind Jurado was Kelsey Ramsey in 110

place. Chloe Alling took the last scoring position for the

Redskins in a time of 23:17 in 152

place. Tania Minjarez was the 177

runner with a time of 23:49,

while teammate Karen Hernandez finished in 25:26 in 218

place. The Redskins ended the meet with

403 points in 13

place. The top three teams were Rodgers Arkansas with 127 points, Stillwell-Blue

Valley was 2

with 155 points, and Herculaneum Missouri was third with 162 points. The Redskins also

took their top three JV runners Reyn Slatten, Sarah Arriaga, and Kayla Gokey to the race. Reyn Slatten

was the lone medalist finishing in 20

place with a 4K time of 19:21. Arriaga and Gokey placed 89

and

with times of 20:53 and 20:55, respectively.

The boy’s team had 51 schools in their division. Edgar Moreno, Emilio Tovilla, and Greg McClurg

packed together to place 66

, 71

, and 85

with times of 17:43, 17:49, and 17:54, respectively. Alex

Chance completed the course in 18:10 in 114

place, while Ryan Doll finished in 162

with his time of

18:36. Antonio Borunda who was running on the course for the first time placed 180

in 18:49. Juan

Beltran’s time of 19:25 was good enough for 223

place. The Redskins finished with 472 points and

finished in 20

place. The top three teams were all Kansas schools as Dodge City took the championship

with 171 points, Olathe-South was second with 180 points, and Maize South was third with 187 points.

Joel Obando, Javier Carillo, and Josh Diazdeleon also ran in the JV race. Obando finished in 23

place to

make it to the podium with a time of 19:06. Carillo’s time of 19:28 was good enough for 43

place, and

Diazdeleon was the 102

runner with a time of 20:44.

The Redskins will travel to Newton, Kansas next Saturday.
