Seward Newcomer Defensive Player of the Week
KSCB News - September 9, 2015 4:43 pm
Playing in her first collegiate action this week, Seward County Freshman Viviane Viana showed no fear going up against some of the top teams in the country. Viana averaged 2.93 digs and 0.47 blocks per set for the Lady Saints, but it is what she did in serve/receive that was most impressive. In 95 chances on the week, Viana had just one reception error, passing an average of 2.47. In the Lady Saints final three matches of the weekend against Yavapai, Central Arizona and Lee, Viana was served at a total of 63 times without a single reception error. For her efforts, Viana was named the Jayhawk West Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday by the league, marking the second straight week that a Lady Saint has won the award, after fellow Freshman Kimberly Diaz took home the honors last week.
Viana and the Lady Saints will open their 2015 home schedule on Thursday as they host Dodge City in the Greenhouse at 6:30.
