Confidence is Key at Turpin

KSCB News - August 13, 2015 1:19 pm

After a 7-4 season for their return to 8 man class B football, the Turpin Cardinals have high hopes heading in the 2015 season. The Cards shrugged off a 1-29 finish their final three seasons in 11 man to emerge as a respectable playoff team in the first year of the powerful B-1 district.

The Cardinals have 34 out for football and five starters back on offense and six back on defense at the tradition rich school. The Cards return all district players Sr. QB/DB Matt Young, Sr. RB/LB George Dominguez, Sr. WR/DB Brad Alba, Sr. OL/DE Arnold Ortiz, and Sr. TE/DE Kenny Holmes. Young rushed for over 1,500 yards and gained over 2,100 yards while Dominguez rushed for over 900 yards. Alba led THS in interceptions and Holmes had 10 sacks for the Cardinals. Turpin only loses five seniors from last year’s team. They will need all the experience they can get in a district which has won or been runner up in six of the past seven Class B state championships and has placed both teams in the state finals two of the past three seasons.

Justin Hannah is in his third season as head coach at a school which has won eight state championships. But the 7-4 2014 season was a memoralbe one placing the Cardinals back amongst the elite in the class.

The Cardinals were featured during the Thursday edition of the Sportsguys.
