The Liberal Bee Jays are still standing. After a wild Wednesday, the Bee Jays have advanced to the Last One In game Thursday night at 7 against the Colorado Cyclones. The Bee Jays recorded the last out in a 7-2 win over the Newton Rebels after midnight Thursday morning.

Sacrifice flies by Nick Brooks in the first and Madison Foster in the third gave Liberal a 2-0 lead. Gavin Wehby’s two out two RBI single in the fourth made it 4-0. BJ starter Lue Whitfield wiggled out of a first and second no out jam in the fifth and a bases loaded no out pickle in the sixth buoyed by a dazzling 4-6-3 double play which started when BJ second baseman Brody Miller flipped the ball to Luke Sherley at second with his glove. The Rebels scored one to make it 4-1. Miler then doubled home a run and Foster singled home a run with two outs in the sixth for a 6-1 lead. Gavin Wehby sliced a double to left in the eighth and scored on Miller’s ground out.

Whitfield pitched six strong innings allowing one run and Lee Busto worked three innings allowing one run. Liberal has won 10 of 11 and plays the Colorado Cyclones Thursday night at 7 on 1270 and kscbnews.net. The winner meets the San Diego Waves in Championship Week Saturday at 1. Newton finishes 20-26.
