Liberal freshman Dusty Torres is the Mead Lumber Athlete of the Week. Torres won the WAC last week in the 400 (50.10) and helped the 4×400 relay team win gold at 3:23.90. Torres also took second in the 100 at 11.21 which is his bet time of the season. He helped the Redskins win their first WAC title in boys track since 2003. His best 400 time this season is 50.03 at Hutchinson. He also runs cross country and plays basketball. He and the Redskins host regional track Friday at Gary Cornelsen Sports Complex in Liberal as Bishop Carroll, Kapaun, Maize South, Great Bend, Goddard, Goddard Eisenhower, and Ark City come to town.
