Seward County catcher Brent Williams saved his best for last in the final week of the 2015 regular season and after picking up Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week Honors on Tuesday, the sophomore backstop collected an even bigger award on Thursday as was named the NJCAA National Player of the Week.
Williams hit an even .500 for Seward last week, going 14 for 28 in seven contests. He smacked three doubles in his continued pursuit of the NJCAA’s all-time mark and cranked a pair of home runs. He drove in 11 runs on the week to move into the top 30 nationally in that category with 54 on the year.
On the season Williams is hitting .405 with 18 doubles, 4 triples, 10 home runs and 54 RBI’s.
Williams and the Saints will return to the diamond this weekend at Brent Gould Field in Liberal where they will battle the Highland Scotties in a best two out of three series with a trip to the Region VI Championships on the line.
