The only real question was whether Mother Nature would cooperate. With thunder crackling thoughout the afternoon Friday and one brief downpour, the skies parted and the proverbial flood gates opened for the fifth ranked Redskins. Liberal beat Colby 11-0 in five and 16-1 in three.
In game one, Zack White pitched a no hitter. Cole Evans was 2-3 with four RBI’s at the dish with a double and Jared Hasik was 2-3 with four RBI’s and a double. Liberal only had six hits but walks and two errors hindered the Eagles chances.
In game two, Liberal used a 10 run second all with two outs to blow a 2-1 game open. Liberal had 16 runs on 15 hits. Tim Fitzgerald was 3-3 with a triple, a double and three RBI’s. Cole Evans was 3-3 with an inside the park home run and two RBI’s. Cristian Erives was 1-2 with a triple and three RBI’s. Kaiden Long and Junior Garcia added two hits a piece. Jacob McCarter, Angel Archuleta, and Jared Hasik added one hit and one RBI a piece. Caiden Bigham pitched three innings allowing one run and one hit with three strikeouts.
Liberal is 14-0 and has concluded their non conference schedule. Liberal plays one game at Dodge City Tuesday with the JV game at 4 and the varsity to follow. The JV is 13-0 with wins 15-4 and 12-3 over Colby.
