Liberal’s 2015 tennis season could be double or nothing. Liberal has loaded up their doubles teams and all ready saw positive signs Saturday in the opener at Great Bend. Liberal won the WAC in boys tennis in 2008, 2009, and 2010. But the program has been rebuilding ever since. But eighth year head coach Bret Irby sees reason for optimism this season. He has experience throughout his varsity team. His doubles teams are loaded with third year varsity players senior Buddy Buchanon and and junior Mitchell Irby. The number two doubles team has third year varsity player and state wrestling champ senior Sergio Borjas and junior Jose Orgega. The singles set up right now has second year varsity player senior Johnny Tran at number one singles and third year varsity player senior Nano Hernandez. Senior Tristan Martinez also figures into the varsity lineup this season. Irby has 18 out for tennis this season but only one freshman. Liberal competes at Hays April 13 after taking third during the opener at Great Bend Saturday. Irby’s interview was recorded before the Great Bend tournament.
