Hugoton Brings in Old New Guy

KSCB News - August 25, 2014 7:18 am

Hugoton’s new head coach Todd Fulton referred to himself as the old new guy to his players. There is transition at Hugoton after Clint Merritt left for Chapman, but not much. Fulton has been an assistant the past two years at Hugoton. The Eagles return all but one coach, and that is Merritt who was also athletic director at Hugoton. Fulton brings a myriad of coaching experience. He has been head coach at Nickerson and Victoria. He was a long time assistant at Norton. He also assisted college programs at Sterling, Pittsburg State, and OPSU.

The Eagles were 5-4 with a senior oriented team last year. They have 50 out for football in 4A division 2 this year and three starters back on defense and two back on offense. Key Eagles include Sr. lineman Genesis Martinez, Sr. RB/LB Michael Baeza, Sr. WR/LB Brad Hemann, Sr. RB/S Ulises Armendariz, Sr. WR/CB Kellen Watkins, Jr. QB Parker Titus, So. QB Tino Delgado, Jr. FB/NG Ulises Reyes, Jr. LB/FB Noel Camacho, and Jr. OT/DE Mark Persinger.

Hugoton’s transition to 4A division 2 alters the schedule and Ulysses is a week two opponent rather than week nine. The Eagles are featured during the Sportsguys on Monday.
