Hays Jumps on Liberal Early
KSCB News - June 18, 2014 7:10 am
The Hays Larks may have taken their frustrations out on BJ pitching Tuesday night at Brent Gould Field. After Wellington swept Hays at Larks Park, the Larks led 12-2 after three innings on their way to a 15-4 snoozer. The BJ’s have lost three straight for the second time this season. Hays hammered five home runs.
The Larks scored five runs on five hits in the first powered by home runs from Tyler Detmer and Tyler Leffler against starter Robert Dugger who blanked Hays in Hays last week. The Bee Jays scored two in the first when Alec Isaac hit a home run off the scoreboard and Brennan Johnson doubled home a run. Hays scored three runs in the second powered by Derek Birginski’s three run homer to make it 8-2 Hays. Aaron Cornell homered for Hays in the third as they scored four more runs to lead 12-2. Michael Burns homered later in the game. For Liberal, Just McCarty doubled home a run in the sixth and Brady Cox singled home a run in the seventh. One other bright spot was Brent Cleland who pitched five innings allowing two runs and struck out five in the loss.
Liberal is 7-7 and 3-7 in the Jayhawk while Hays is 10-4 and 7-4 in the Jayhawk. The teams play Wednesday night at 7 at Brent Gould Field. Ruffino’s is the buyout sponsor. The game airs on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
