The Boys in Blue are Back

The Liberal Bee Jays opened their 60th summer of baseball with a 7-1 win over the Albuquerque Diablos Friday night at Brent Gould Field. Liberal held the Diablos to four hits in front of a big opening night crowd.

Seward’s JB Olson pitched four and two-thirds hitless innings for the win. Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Dustin Luna went two and one-third innings allowing one run. Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Ryan Scott and Wichita State’s Ray Ashford wrapped up the eighth and ninth for Liberal.

The BJ’s scored their first six runs with two men out. They scored one in the second when Bryan Haberstroh walked with the bases loaded. Liberal added five in the fourth. Cisco’s Alec Isaac singled home two runs with two outs. Seward’s Bryson Allen doubled against the wind to right center to score Alec to make it 4-1. The Diablo center fielder dropped Zach Hoffman’s line drive allowing two more runs to score to make it 6-0. Liberal added a run in the eighth when Rose State’s Derek Jones singled home a run.

The same two teams meet Saturday night at Brent Gould Field. Little Caesar’s is the buyout sponsor.
