More Hutch Heartbreak

Jayhawk West champion Hutchinson had just enough to beat Seward 8-7 Friday night at the Region 6 Tournament at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita. Seward out-hit Hutch but left 13 runners on base in the loss.
The highhly motivated Saints built a 3-1 lead against 13-0 Hutch starter Kyle Simonds. Seward scored in the second when Kevin Connolly scored on a Mason Marshall infield single and an error. HCC tied the game in the bottom of the third. SC took a 3-1 lead in the fourth when Reed Thompson rolled a two RBI single up the middle. Seward couldn’t find a fly ball to center in the light to. Elgin the Hutch fifth with a double which would later score. The Blue Dragons took a 4-3 lead with two in sixth. Hutch added a seventh inning run and scored three unearned runs in the eighth to lead 8-3. The Saints stormed back in the ninth. Brandon Urquizo whistled a double to center to score two. Marshall singled to make it 8-6 and advanced to second on the throw meaning the Saints had the tying run a second with no outs. A Thompson sac fly scored a run but the Saints couldn’t chase the tying run home. Thompson was 3-5 with three RBI’s and Marshall was 3-5. Starting pitcher JB Olson went six innings and allowed four runs.
The Dragons are 43-15 and 5-0 against SC and the Saints are 31-28. They face Butler Saturday at 1 on 1270 and kscbnews.net.
