After a week in which they helped Seward County to a 3-1 record which included their 40th win of the year, a pair of Lady Saints have been honored by the conference Tuesday with Jayhawk West Player & Pitcher of the Week awards. Pokey Ewell has been named the Jayhawk West Player of the Week for the first time in her rookie season with the Lady Saints while sophomore lefty Katelyn Craker earns her third Pitcher of the Week honor.

Ewell extended her season long hitting streak to 16 games this week, hitting in all four Seward games played, batting .533 in the process. Wednesday against Garden City she had a pair of multi-hit games, going 2 for 4 with a double and a triple in game one of the doubleheader and followed that up with a 3 for 4 contest in which she had 2 more doubles and 3 RBI’s. Friday against Pratt she was 1 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored in game one of that doubleheader and finished the week with a 2 hit game against the Beavers.

Craker moved to 19-3 on the year this week, going 2-0 for the Lady Saints by picking up victories against Garden City and Pratt. Wednesday against Garden City she went the distance in a 4-3 win for the Lady Saints. She allowed just 5 hits while striking out 8 Buster batters. Friday against Pratt she was locked in, throwing a complete game shutout, allowing just 3 hits while punching out 9.

Ewell and Craker will lead the Lady Saints into battle in the final week of the 2014 season on Wednesday and Friday as they travel to Colby and Barton to wrap up their Jayhawk West Conference schedule.
