Slow Start Stymies Seward

Barton used a 30-6 first half run to build a 20 point lead and sink the Seward County Saints 72-66 Wednesday night at the Kirkman Center in Great Bend. The Cougars led 39-21 at halftime. The Saints rallied all the way back to lead 60-59 with 5:57 to play after a anime Stevenson three pointer. The Saints led 64-63 with 3:33 to go but the Cougars finished the game on a 9-2 run to snap Seward’s five game winning streak in Great Bend.

Barton led Seward 12-2 in fast break points. Barton made 9-18 three pointers and Seward was just 18-32 at the foul line. Niem Stevenson had 25 in the loss. Malcolm Hill-Bey had 12 and Secean Johnson added 11.

The Cougars snap Seward’s nine game winning streak and improve to 14-6 overall and 2-2 in the Jayhawk West while the Saints are 13-7 and 3-1. Seward hosts Dodge City for homecoming Saturday night at 8 on B107.5 and kscbnews.net.
