Taylor Eyes Turnaround in Guymon

KSCB News - August 20, 2013 7:01 am

New coach, new offense, new defense, new two platoon, and a new daily schedule. You get the idea, change is definitely evident at class 5A Guymon. And it needs to be after two straight 1-9 seasons and a 5-45 record the past five years.

Mike Taylor comes in as head coach. His resume is filled with Guymon Tiger pride as he has been the head boys soccer coach the past 10 years and has been an assistant for GHS football the past 17 years. Taylor says he’s not going anywhere which would be a welcome change for Guymon administration as Taylor is the fourth different head coach in the past six years.

The early returns are very positive with 77 out for football. Taylor is going to a two platoon system he says is crucial to compete in 5A. The Tigers have eight seniors.

GHS athletes and coaches will also make use of a new athletic period similar to what Liberal has. This will mark the first year Guymon has had an athletic period since 1998.

Some of the key Tigers are Sr. LB Carter Hudson, Sr. QB Austin Stonecipher, Jr. DE Levi Bowers, Jr. Austin Heins, Sr. FS Alex Zakrzewicz, Sr. Jet back Seth Sanders, and Fr. SB Austin Lasano.

Guymon will be featured during the Tuesday Sportsguys.
