Four Seward Cheerleaders Sign

KSCB News - May 7, 2013 12:39 pm

After two successful years as cheerleaders for the
Seward County Saints basketball teams, four Saints cheerleaders have
made the team at four year universities around the state. Kaela Krueger
and Oscar Don Juan will cheer for the Wichita State Shockers next season
while Saul Landeros will be on the floor with the Kansas State Wildcats
and Darlene Monge will cheer for the Fort Hays State Tigers for the next
two seasons.

Krueger was a two year member of the Seward cheerleading
and dance teams during her Saints career. She will attend and cheer for
Wichita State University next season. Former Seward cheer and dance
coach Scarlette Diseker said of Krueger "I coached Kaela since she was
12 years old at South Middle School and I waited a long time to get her
back at Seward. Having her through that span and now seeing her make a
team like Wichita State, I really feel like my coaching career is
complete." Talking of what Krueger will bring to the Shockers, Diseker
said "she brings so many skills to the table from tumbling to stunting
and everything in-between. She is much loved in the Liberal community
and it will be tough to see her go, but she will be a great addition to
the WSU team." Krueger is expected to enter the nursing program at
Wichita State.

Don Juan spent a year and a half with the Saints cheer
squad. One of the team’s energy leaders, Don Juan was in the middle of
the Saints cheer action during home basketball games. "He is one of
those guys who will keep working until he gets something, no matter how
long or how much effort it takes" Diseker said of Don Juan. Also a
standout student, Don Juan plans to begin his classwork to become a
doctor at Wichita State University.

Landeros cheered at Seward from 2010 to 2012 before
moving on to Kansas State University. After taking a year off from
cheering, Diseker said she was thrilled when Landeros told her that he
was planning on trying out for the Wildcats team. "He was one of my
best guys of all time at Seward. He is a natural born athlete who had a
very successful high school football and wrestling career" she said.
"The competition at K-State is very tough. I have had really good kids
try out in the past who have gotten really close, but Saul is the first
to make the team. I am very proud of him" Diskeker continued.

Monge is another two year member of the Seward cheer and
dance teams. "The minute she walked into the gym two years ago, I knew
I had to have her on the team" Diseker said of her 5’0 "dynamo". When
talking about the skills that she will bring to Fort Hays, Diseker said
of Monge "she is so aggressive when it comes to stunting that we
lovingly call her our "Crash Test Dummy." If we wanted to try a new
stunt, she was always willing to go first. I have never seen someone so
fearless. Fort Hays will have to do a lot just to keep up with her."
