Seward’s Howard Wins KJCCC’s Pitcher of the Week

In a season in which he has continued to get better as
it has gone along, Seward County freshman Hayden Howard was rewarded for
another outstanding effort on the mound this weekend as Wednesday the
Jayhawk Conference announced that the Saints lefty was the league’s
Pitcher of the Week.

Howard was nearly untouchable for Seward this week in a
pair of appearances. Opposing batters hit just .040 against the lefty
in 25 at bats as he allowed just 1 hit in 8 innings of work while
striking out 10. In a perfect inning Wednesday against Clarendon he
fanned 2 to close out Seward’s 12-3 win over the Bulldogs. Sunday in
game three of the Saints series with Cloud County he dominated the
T-Birds, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 8 in a 7-0 shutout win.

In his final five starts of the regular season Howard
was 5-0 with a 1.10 ERA with opponents hitting just .200 against him.
After pitching as the Saints #3 man most of the regular season, Howard
will likely slide into the #2 spot in the rotation for the upcoming
Region VI Tournament.
