Liberal senior Destyni Lucero is the Mead Lumber Athlete of the Week. The senior long distance runner won the 2 mile, 1 mile, and 4×800 relay at the Liberal Invitational last Friday. Due to the wind at the Cornelsen Sports Complex, Lucero’s times were actually up from the opening Winfield meet. Lucero ran the 3200 in 12:31.80 after a time of 12:11 in Winfield and the mile in 5:55.84 down from the 5:36 she ran in Winfield. Lucer teamed with Mercy Perez, Holly Hinkle, and Kim Francis to win the 4×800 relay at 11:09.84 down from the 10:35.09 in Winfield. Lucero has made state in two of her three years in track and field. In cross country, Lucero finished 34th as a senior, 28th at state as a junior and 39th as a sophomore and also qualified for state as a freshman. She signed at Friends University track and field program this winter. Lucero and LHS compete at Campus April 19.
