LHS Softball Walks Off with Split with Hugoton

Liberal and Hugoton split a double header Thursday afternoon and evening at the Liberal Softball Complex. Hugoton (5-1) won game one 9-5 but LHS took game two in walk off fashion 11-10.

In game one, Hugoton’s Tarin Garza held Liberal to just three hits. However due to walks and errors Liberal left 13 runners on base. Chastity Parsons was 3-4 with a double while Garza was 2-4 and Jocee Mueller was 2-3. Cynthia Cisneros had two of Liberal’s three hits. Liberal actually led 4-1 into the sixth when the Eagles scored six. Hugoton out-hit Liberal 10-3.

In game two, Hugoton jumped on Liberal for four in the first, but after one in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth, and one in the fifth, the Redskins had an 8-4 lead. Hugoton chased home three in the sixth to make it 8-7 and Liberal scored in the bottom of the inning to make the score 9-7. Hugoton took the lead 10-9 in the seventh. Cynthia Cisneros came home with the winning run on a Hugoton error to win 11-10. Riley Hay had two triples and Kaitlyn Ralston had two hits. Brittany Granger struck out seven in the win. Liberal stranded 10 more runners on base for 23 on the day in 14 innings of softball.

Liberal is 3-1 and Hugoton is 5-1. Liberal hosts Scott City April 5 at 4 p.m.
