Redskins Manhandle Maize South

KSCB News - March 1, 2013 1:30 pm

Liberal was by far the more aggressive and more athletic team and they proved it in a 68-49 win at Maize South to begin 5A sub state Thursday night. Liberal’s full court pressure hounded Maize South who uses freshman and sophomore guards and doesn’t have a senior on the team.

But buoyed by playing their first ever 5A sub state game, the Mavericks jumped out to a 13-6 lead only to see the Redskins rip off a 21-2 run after a Drew Gruver timeout.

J.J. Lewis scored 19 points while Britton Abbott added 13 as the Redskins had a decisive advantage on the boards. Blake Stout lit up the Mavericks from the outside with 14 points and four three pointers.

Liberal wins their opening round sub state game for the fifth time in seven years. The 7-13 Skins play at 13-7 Hays Saturday night at 6 on Talkradio 1270. The winner advances to state.
