Lady Saints Stumble into Break But Ransom Carries Men
KSCB News - December 9, 2012 12:38 pm
Despite a sloppy start to their game with the Beacon
Prep Eagles, the Seward County Saints were able to finish the first half
with a barrage of offense to take a 51-30 lead into the break before
coasting to an 88-61 win Saturday night in the finale of the Pizza Hut
Classic. Kaheem Ransom scored a career high 31 for the Saints in the
victory while freshman big man Brian Bridgeforth had the best game of
his young career with a 14 point, 12 rebound double double for Seward.
The Lady Saints didn’t have quite the same fortunes,
although their start was another good one. Down 7-6 to visiting
Arkansas Baptist, the Lady Saints went on an 11-0 run to take a 17-7
lead and would stretch their lead to as many as 20 in the first half
before going into the break on top 44-30. Seward remained up by 15 in
the second half 52-37 before a 10-2 run cut their lead to single digits
at 54-47. Back on top by 10 with 12:29 to go, the Lady Saints fell
apart. Arkansas Baptist outscored the Lady Saints 32-10 to finish the
game and what once was a comfy cushion for Seward turned into a rough
loss as the Lady Buffs took the game home 79-67. Seward shot just 28%
in the second half and gave up 23 offensive rebounds to Arkansas
Baptist. Fabiana Monte tied her career high on a 7 for 17 shooting
performance with 20 points while Madison McLain registered her first
career double double with 18 points and 10 rebounds for Seward.
The Saints improve to 8-4 and will have two more
non-conference games against Mineral Area and Lamar State Port Arthur to
ring in the new year while the Lady Saints sit at 9-4 and will be idle
until the conference opener on January 5th against Barton in the
Greenhouse.
