Jason Rios is Mead Lumber Athlete of the Week

Liberal junior center midfielder Jason Rios is the Mead Lumber Athlete of the Week. Rios has two assists in Liberal’s three goals in the past two playoff games. He also scored a goal in the 2-0 playoff win over Hays before assisting in the 2-1 double overtime win at Salina Central and the 1-0 win at Great Bend Tuesday night. Rios has five goals this season.

Rios and the 10-8-1 Redskins face 17-1 Kansas City Harmon Friday at 5 p.m. in the semifinals of the 5A state soccer tournament in Wichita. Bishop Miege (16-2-1) and Kapaun (14-5) meet in the other semifinal matchup. The winners meet at 2 p.m. for the state championship which LHS won last season.
