Former World Series MVP Visits Liberal

Former World Series MVP and professional golfer Ralph Terry played in Liberal’s R.E. Colvin Memorial golf tournament Friday. The 76 year old Terry lives in Larned and took time to talk with the Sportsguys. Terry was the 1962 World Series MVP after winning two games for the Yankees against the Giants. He played for the Yankees from 1956-57 and 1959-1964; the Kansas City Athletics from 1957-1959 and 1966; the Cleveland Indians (1965) and New York Mets from 1966-1967. He was 23-12 for the Yankees in 1962. The Big Cabin, Oklahoma native started 257 games and finished 75 games. He won 107 games and notched 11 saves.
After baseball, Terry became a professional golfer. Based on his status as a PGA of America Sectional Champion, he qualified for and played in four PGA Tour events in 1981 and 1982. In 1986, he started playing on the Senior PGA Tour. His best finish was a tie for 10th at the 1989 Showdown Classic.
