After mounting a miraculous five run rally with two outs and the bases empty to tie the game in the ninth, Seward’s bullpen woes continued in a 15-11 loss to Allen County in the first round of their Liberal Super Regional at Brent Gould Field Saturday afternoon. The Seward bullpen allowed a mind numbing 11 runs in the last two innings for the loss.

Allen built early leads of 3-0 going to the bottom of the fourth and 4-2 before the Saints plated a pair in the sixth to tie it. The Saints scored two more in seventh to take a 6-4 lead. Keegan Hucul pitched seven and one third innings allowing four runs in a no decision. Tyler Wiedenfeld pitched two thirds scoreless in the eighth before a shaky ninth. Seward led 6-4 into the ninth when the Red Devils scored two runs to tie it at 6-6 before an error on the SC second baseman allowed two runs to score to make it 8-6 and a Kyle Johnston three run homer made it 11-6.

The first two Saints were retired in the ninth but the Saints mounted a rally and a Jake Barrios ground ball single to left scored two including Tanner Rainey with the tying run. But Allen scored four against Seward’s Willie Gustin to lead 15-11 and win by that final.

Allen (21-33) won despite five errors. Seward out-hit the Red Devils 19-11.

The Saints play the Coffeyville-Colby loser tonight at 7 p.m. on Talkradio 1270. Allen plays Sunday at 1p.m. against the winner.
