Surging Saints Bust Out Brooms

For the first time this season, the Saints have a four game sweep under their belts. Seward took two over Pratt Monday afternoon at Brent Gould Field 2-0 and 8-7.

In game one, Tyler Wiedenfeld (4-4) pitched the distance striking out seven without a walk. Seward’s only offense came in the third when Willie Gustin wacked a two RBI single to left with two outs.

Game two was a see-saw affair. Pratt, desparately seeking a win in the series took a 3-1 lead after Todd Reller hit a homer in the second. Seward struck for four runs in the fourth buoyed by a two RBI double from Jake Barrios to make it 5-3 Seward. The Beavers scored three against starter T.J. Looney (2 earned runs) in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. Steven Polito wacked a two RBI single to center against hard throwing closer Junior Mustain to give the Saints a 7-6 lead. Pratt tield it in the seventh. The Saints scored the decisive run with a Ben Wainwright bloop single to right to scored Kevin Domzalski to make it 8-7. Garret Smith (1-3) pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing one run for the win. T.J. Looney went five and one-third innings. Kevin Domzalski was 2-3 with two doubles.

The Saints have won 11 of their last 14 and are 19-9 in the Jayhawk West and 27-21 overall. The Saints play at Clarendon Wednesday at 3 p.m. and don’t have a conference game until April 28 at Colby.
