KSCB News - March 20, 2012 11:13 pm

The Seward County Saints held to their first round form Tuesday night at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. They won a first round game like in 1995, 1998, and 2008. Seward’s defense smothered Wallace State, Alabama in a 71-52 win. The Saints held the Lions to under 40 percent shooting. Seward led the points off turnovers category 25-5. The Saints will play Columbia State, Tennessee Thursday night at 6:30 in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Tournament.

Daveon Boardingham equaled a season high of 23 points. Kaheem Ransom added 16 and Irvin Hollinger scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds.

The Saints bolted to a 23-7 lead after a slow offensive start and led 36-22 at the half. Seward led 38-22 before Wallace State, who finished last in their ACCC conference but won the Region 22 Tournament, ripped off a 20-6 run to make it 44-42 with 10:24 to play. Seward wasted no time building a 50-42 lead and never looked back leading by as many as 20.

The Saints are 29-6 and the Lions are 19-16.
