Cornelsen Super on Sunday

KSCB News - February 6, 2012 7:16 am

Former Liberal High School head football and track and field coach Gary Cornelsen is sticking to his New Year’s resolution. His resolution was to speak more often about his relatioship with God. When Faith Tabernacle minister Rex Petty called Cornelsen and asked him to speak at the event, Cornelsen couldn’t say no.

Cornelsen spoke fondly of his time in Liberal and of the efforts of the athletes, parents, and community. He gave each kid in attendance a note card to write down a spiritual goal to try to live up to.

The Texhoma native and former Panhandle State Aggie led Liberal to a 118-17 football record with four state championships and three runner up finishes. He coached the Redskin track program while the boys won 14 straight state titles from 1991-2004 and the girls while they won 10 of 11 titles.
