Three Liberal High School football players signed during a ceremony Wednesday morning in the Big House. Wednesday is National Signing Day nationwide.

Justin McPhail and Michael Sena signed to play football at Fort Hays State while Brad Denten signed to play football at Hutchinson Community College.

All three were slowed by injuries this season is Liberal’s 2-7 football campaign.

McPhail is recovering from a knee injury suffered in the third game against Hays. He had 34 tackles in two games. He led the Redskins with 128 tackles his junior year which included six sacks. He participated in the Army All America Bowl camp last year. His sister Makayla McPhail competed in track and volleyball at FHSU.

Michael Sena is projected to play in the defensive secondary and on special teams for the Tigers. Sena had 64 tackles including 18 against Great Bend this season. He had two interceptions including one for a touchdown. Sena injured his leg and missed the last couple of games but was still named first team all WAC.

Sena and McPhail will play for LHS graduate Chris Brown. The Tigers were 4-7 in his first year as head coach but were young this season.

Brad Denten missed most of the season due to a knee injury suffered in the second game against Guymon. He battled back and played in the final two games against Hutchinson and Wichita West. The 6’4" mountain of an individual has a definite upside for Rion Rhoades program at Hutch. Rhoades is another LHS graduate and Liberal’s Slader McVey is a quarterback for the Blue Dragons. HCC was 9-3 this season.

Matt Mendoza of Turpin signed to play at Southwestern Oklahoma State and Colten Lissolo of Hugoton will play at Hutchinson.
