Redskins Hold Down Hays

Don’t look now, but that much beleagured Redskin soccer defense has allowed one goal in the past three games. Yesterday, the defense held Hays scoreless in a 2-0 Redskin win Thursday afternoon at Redskin Field. Buoyed by a wind gusting up to 49 miles per hour, Hays had the wind at their backs for the second half after the Redskins took advantage of the wind with two first half goals. But Liberal goalkeeper Ricardo Castro and the defense held Hays at bay in the second half.
Jose Covarrubias found Eduardo Moreno for the first goal into that north net at the 35:18 mark before Esteban Michel scored with 9:27 to play in the first half with an assist from Isai Gutierrez. Liberal had several second half chances to score against the win but could not.
Liberal has won four straight and is 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the WAC. The Redskins compete at the Wichita North Cup beginning Monday.
