Hays Wins WAC Girls Tennis Crown

The Liberal Redskin Varsity Girls’ Tennis Team completed its season at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in Dodge City on Monday. Hays dominated the team honors with 14 points followed by Great Bend with 10 points, Dodge City with 9 points, Garden City with 6 points, and Liberal with 1 point.

Player of the year honors went to Hanna Pfannenstiel from Hays; Coach of the Year honors went to Coach Brett Jensen from Hays.

Individual Results:

#1 Singles—Kathy Nguyen went 0-4 on the day. She lost to Dodge City’s Ashton Moore 1-8, lost to Hays’ Hanna Pfannenstiel 1-8, lost to Garden City’s Kelsey Steward 3-8, then lost to Great Bend’s Morgan Francis 2-8.

#2 Singles—Shelby Hay went 0-4 on the day. She lost to Dodge City’s Kelly Brauer 0-8, lost to Hays’ Jill Taylor 6-8, lost to Garden City’s Virgenie Kyan 5-8, then lost to Great Bend’s Stephanie Langer 3-8.

#1 Doubles—Lauren Harp & Maddie Rees went 1-3 on the day. They started off the day with an impressive win over Dodge City’s team of Hatfield/Schaller 8-4. Then they lost to Hays’ Wyse/McRae 1-8, lost to Garden City’s Silva/Schmidt 2-8, lost to Great Bend’s Schartz/McVay 1-8.

#2 Doubles—Melissa Alvarado & Madison Martinez went 0-4 on the day. They lost to Dodge City’s Hardy/Keeten 1-8, lost to Hays’ Gagnon/Bird 1-8, lost to Garden City’s Landon/Martinez 2-8, then lost to Great Bend’s Sinclair/Brining 1-8.

The Lady Redskins travel to Wichita—Kapaun Mt. Carmel for Regionals on Saturday morning.
