KSHSAA Announces Classifications

Liberal High School remains a card carrying member of class 5A, but Hutchinson does not. KSHSAA announced classifications Tuesday. Football classifications for the falls of 2012 and 2013 measure enrollment of freshmen through junior classes. Liberal has 912 students in this classification and was not close to the high end 1,005 in 5A. Long time district foe Goddard and the new Goddard Eisenhower will be 5A football schools beginning next year. Football power Hutchinson moves back to 6A next year after a brief four year stint in 5A ending this fall. The only area change for football in 2012 and 2013 is Satanta who falls from 2A to 8 man division one.

All other activities for this school year are measured with a count consisting of the sophomore through the junior classes. Liberal’s at 1,203 student in that count with the high end being 1,281 in 5A. Goddard, Goddard-Eisenhower, and Winfield move to 5A and long time 5A school McPherson falls to 4A. Hutch remains 5A. Cimarron moves to 3A from 2A. The other area schools remain in the same class they were in last year.
