BJ’s Struggle Early in Loss

KSCB News - June 19, 2011 7:18 am

It wasn’t a good start for the Liberal Bee Jays Saturday night at Vulcan Field in Haysville. One night after their most dramatic win of the year, the BJ’s sputtered early. In the first the BJ’s loaded the bases with one out and didn’t score despite a Haysville error, a beanball, and two BJ hits. In the bottom of the inning the Heat plated two unearned runs after two BJ errors. Haysville tacked on two more sixth inning runs and the BJ’s score a run with the rain falling in the ninth.

Nicholls State lefty Patrick Shreve turned in another solid outing but fell to 2-1. He pitched five and two-thirds innings striking out six and walking two. He allowed two earned runs. Malloy’s Justin Jorgenson pitched two and one-third scoreless innings in the loss. Northwood’s Eddie Arroyo was 2-4.

Liberal is 12-3 overall and 5-3 in the Jayhawk League. They fall behind Derby (6-3) who beat Dodge City 5-0 in Derby Saturday night. The Heat is 6-5. The Heat host the BJ’s at 7 p.m. Sunday night on Talkradio 1270 and kscbnews.net.
