KSCB News - July 31, 2009 12:00 am

The 10 year old Liberal Cimarron River Rattlers opened up the Regional Tournament Friday night at Rosel Field. The Rattlers fell short against the Minnesota state champions 8-5.

Minnesota led 8-0 heading into the bottom half of the sixth inning which is all they play and almost rallied to victory. Cimarron River scored five runs and had the bases loaded with two outs. However, a strikeout ended the game for the Rattlers.

The WOW award for a great play in the field went to Trey Stout from Liberal as he made two nice catches in left field. The Rattlers MVP for the game was Dylan Shellenberger who had a single and a walk with 2 RBI’s. Cole Evans also had three singles and a run scored.

Minnesota moves to the winners bracket and will play Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Liberal will begin play in the losers bracket at 1:30 p.m. at Rosel Field.

Other Scores from Friday’s First Round of Regional:
