Seward Athletes Dominate Weekly Awards

Seward County sophomore point guard Jeremy Jones wrapped
up the Jayhawk West Conference Championship this week as well as the
conferences scoring title during West action, and now he has another
honor headed his way as it was announced today that he has been named
the Jayhawk Conference’s Player of the Week for his performances in the
two Seward County wins last week. Wednesday against Garden City Jones
scored 17 points, had 6 assists, and 5 rebounds while the Saints
clinched the conference title outright and backed up that performance
with a 21 point night on 6 of 11 shooting in the Power Plant against
Butler on Saturday evening. Jones finishes his only year in the Jayhawk
West as the leading scorer in conference play at nearly 20 points per
game and also finishes in the top 5 in assists and free throws made.

If there were some positives to draw from a
disappointing 2-2 split with Colby last weekend at Brent Gould Field, it
was the play of sophomore 2nd baseman Jordan Dallalio and freshman lefty
reliever Willy Gustin. Announced by the conference today, the two have
been selected as the KJCCC Player of the Week and the KJCCC Pitcher of
the Week for those performances.

Dallalio led the Saints in hitting on the week, posting
a .550 batting average in six Seward games. He finished 11 for 20
overall while scoring 11 runs and driving in 4. His numbers in the
Saints conference opening series against Colby were even better. He
finished the four game set with the Trojans 9 for 16 (.563) while
scoring 2 or more runs in each game. In Saturday’s double header with
the Trojans, Dallalio finished each game 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored
while knocking in 1 run in the opener and 2 in the night cap.

Gustin was a bulldog for the Saints this week, throwing
out of bullpen three times in six days. On Saturday against Colby he
threw 3 2/3 innings of relief giving them an opportunity to get back
into the game by allowing just 1 hit and 1 run for the Saints.
Originally thought to be out of commission on the mound for Sunday,
Gustin stepped up and was called to duty late in the series finale
against the Trojans and the freshman lefty tossed a perfect 9th, 10th,
and 11th inning to pick up a win as the Saints pulled off the extra
inning victory.

For the second straight week, Seward County Lady Saints
ace Sydney Cicchetti has been named the Jayhawk West Conference Pitcher
of the Week. This time it only took the sophomore righty one game to
earn the honor as she spun her 8th career shutout Wednesday in a 2
hitter against a Clarendon team averaging nearly 6 runs per game coming
into the double header. She would strike out 4 Lady Bulldogs and walk
just 2 while helping Seward cruise to a 9-0 win at Lady Saints Field. (Roy Allen)
