Lady Saints in Foul Mood After Loss

KSCB News - February 3, 2011 9:13 am

Hutchinson raced back to stun the Lady Saints 62-59 Wednesday night at the Green House. Seward led 32-23 at halftime and 40-24 with 15:30 to play before foul trouble plagued the Lady Saints. Seward’s Mariah Lee and Hanna Bogner were both whistled for their fourth fouls leaving Seward paper thin up front. Seward still had opportunities late, but several of their 21 turnovers came down the stretch. Seward head coach Toby Wynn says there are no more excuses. "At this point of the season, I can’t say it’s a learning experience because these girls have played enough basketball to not be classified as freshmen. We’ve been through the conference one time. Just the failure to execute down the stretch is very disappointing."

The loss wasted 23 points and 10 rebounds from Ashlyn Knoll and 11 points and seven rebounds by Kayla Thomas. The Hutchinson Lady Dragons look poised to run away with the conference title. The #14 team in the country is 21-2 overall and 8-1 in the Jayhawk West. Hutch wins at the Green House for the first time since 2004 when HCC broke Seward’s 135 game home court winning streak. Seward is 15-8 overall and 5-4 in the Jayhawk West. The Lady Saints are in fifth place and if the Region 6 Tournament started today, they would go on the road to Kansas City. Seward plays a key game at fourth place 6-3 Barton Saturday night at 6 p.m. on B107.5 and kscbnews.net.
