New federal regulations will begin paying ranchers for livestock they lose because of the weather.
Beginning Monday, the Livestock Indemnity Program will reimburse producers for animals that are killed as a result of floods, wildfires or extreme heat or cold.
The Kansas Livestock Association says the program should benefit some Kansas farmers who lost animals in June because of the high heat and humidity.
The program was part of the 2008 Farm Bill, but regulations for the payments were only recently completed.
