During a busy holiday weekend in Liberal, Seward County Community College/Area Technical School offered an oasis of relaxing music and a leisurely meal with friends at its Holiday Brunch Dec. 7. Students from the SCCC/ATS music department and community volunteers provided live entertainment that ranged from jazz and alt-folk to Christmas classics and opera.
Community members who were not able to attend the brunch can still enjoy the music department’s efforts at the Winter Concert, set for 7 p.m. Thursday in the Showcase Theater. The evening will feature the SCCC/ATS Concert Band, Singing Saints Concert Choir and vocal ensemble Fermata This World.
Tickets are $3 at the door and benefit the SCCC/ATS Foundation’s Music Endowment Fund. Band instructor Darin Workman said he’s excited about the larger number of participants in this year’s concert band.
“The music’s going to be pretty exciting because you get a bigger sound with more people,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the show."
