Tanner Rindels hit a two run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give Liberal a 12-11 lead in their 14-11 win over Derby (6-5, 5-4) Sunday night at Brent Gould Field. The Bee Jays led 6-3 after two innings after a six run second. Derby would tie the game by scoring three in the third but the BJ’s scored two in the third powered by Louisiana Tech’s Justin Gordey’s two run homer. The Twins would score four in the fourth to lead 10-8 until the sixth when Wichita State’s Mitch Caster doubled home a run to make it 10-9 and Lamar’s Stephen Tucker singled home a run to tie the game. Derby scored one in the eighth to lead 11-10 until Lubbock Christian’s Rindels hit the two run homer in the bottom of the eighth. UT-Arlington’s Chad Comer added a two RBI double to make it 14-11. Caster pitched an inning and a third for his first win. Cal State LA’s Camron Collard pitched three and two third innings allowing one run in a game in which 18 runs were scored the first four innings. Liberal is 7-8 overall and 5-6 in the Jayhawk. The Bee Jays host Derby for a double-header at 5:00 PM Monday evening. Epic PCS is the buyout sponsor for game one and will give away a Nokia flip phone with a camera and other prizes in game one.
