Liberal City Commission Meets, Accepts Grants For Rec. Center

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening at 6:30pm with a light agenda before them. The Commission heard an update from USD 480’s Delvin Kinser on the proposed School proect. Kinser told the Commissioners that the plan to be presented by the Vision Team, to the Board of Education is the result of of several meetings, community meetings, and phone surveys. Kinser believes the plan to be presented to the Board on Monday night will have a price tag in the neighborhood of $128 million. He stated the State of Kansas would be contributing a minimum of 49% of the total cost of the proect. A sales tax question will be put to the voters to help pay for part of the proect as well. The USD 480 Board will spend the next several weeks presenting the plan to the community. Also on the agenda, the commission approved the acceptance of grants for the Recreation Center to improve the lighting and purchase computers for use by students who utilize the Rec Center after school. Grant amounts totaled $8251.35. The next regular meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be anuary 28th.
