A judge has ruled there is enough evidence against a Garden City man to proceed to trial in the stabbing death of a Colby woman.
24-year-old William Shank faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated arson and burglary in the death of 27-year-old Teri Morris. Morris and Shank had previously been in a relationship, but the two had broken up.
Authorities say the two were in custody fight over their 8-month-old daughter. Shank is accused of stabbing Morris up to 27 times before setting her home in Colby on fire.
The baby was with Shank when he contacted police later from the Logan area. Morris was an emergency medical technician and also worked at the Colby Wal Mart at the time of her death.
Shank, who has lived in Garden City and Colby, pleaded not guilty. There’s no word on when a trial may begin.
