KSCB/KLDG Listeners Step Up for Tornado Victims

KSCB and The Legend listeners have a heart that’s even bigger than our listening area. Listeners donated 15,158 dollars to the American Red Cross for disaster relief efforts with Moore, Oklahoma as the top priority right now. Western Kansas American Red Cross Branch Manager Sherry Helmke accepted the check for KSCB/KLDG’s Blake Ozz and Joe Denoyer Wednesday morning at Broadcast Square. Helmke explained where the money goes specifically in the following release.

In Oklahoma, there are 7 shelters open with 362 residents.

> There has been 169,939 meals and snacks served through fixed feeding sites
> and mobile feeding routes.

> There are 45 ERVs including the 2 from our Western Kansas Chapter w/ 4
> volunteers, operating in the Moore and Shawnee communities serving meals
> prepared from two Southern Baptist Convention kitchens.
>
> Red Cross detailed damage assessment shows 1,475 destroyed, 654 major, 1,345
> minor and 1,129 affected.
>
> Client Casework is reaching out to rural areas as well as providing casework
> at the shelters.
>
> Disaster Mental Health workers have been located at schools where children,
> parents and teachers are picking up their belongings.

> There have been 784 registrations on the Safe and Well website, that is where
> anyone can log on & let family & friends know they are ok & where they are. It
> is encouraged by all Red Cross volunteers to have everyone do that, especially
> if they are in a Shelter.

> There are currently 880 disaster responders assigned to the operation. We
> have 1 lady from Liberal there at this time.

> The Red Cross continues to distribute truckloads of relief supplies in
> Oklahoma, while also providing food, comfort and shelter to those affected by
> the devastating tornadoes.

> Red Cross disaster workers are supporting shelters, kitchens, community
> centers and emergency aid stations where people can find a safe refuge, food
> and snacks, emotional support, relief supplies, health care services and
> information about what other help is available. Some are handing out much
> needed relief supplies, including batteries, sunscreen, coolers, buckets,
> gloves, dust masks, trash bags, flashlights, tarps, shovels, rakes and
> blankets.
