On April 24, 2013, during the hours of 7 pm to 11 pm, the Liberal Police Department participated in the Kansas Nighttime Seatbelt Enforcement Campaign. The Campaign was funded by a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety.
The enforcement activity results involved forty-seven vehicles being stopped and a total of fifty citations being issued in the area of 2nd St. and Kansas Ave. A total of thirty-nine citations were issued for seatbelt violations. These included seven citations for child passenger safety violations, two citations for age 14-17 seatbelt violation and thirty adult seatbelt violations. Three citations were issued for various drivers??? license violations, two citations for equipment violations, and three more for miscellaneous violations.
The Liberal Police Department wants to remind everyone to take time to buckle up, before you drive. The Liberal Police Department will be holding numerous nighttime seatbelt enforcements over the next year to spot violators not wearing their seatbelt. Funding for this program is made possible by the Kansas Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety.
