The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) invites the public to review proposed improvements to U.S. 83 in northern Haskell County and southern Finney County at a public information open house on Monday, April 1. The open house will be a come and go event, with no formal presentation, at:
Sublette Southern Baptist Church
901 Lark Ave., Sublette
5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Monday, April 1
One project, slated for construction in 2015, extends from about one mile south of the junction of U.S. 83, U.S. 160 and K 144 to four miles north of that junction. Possible improvements include building an interchange to replace the 83/160/144 junction and passing lanes.
The second project, currently funded for design work only, runs from 90th Road in Haskell County to Lear Road in Finney County, about nine miles. No construction money has been identified for the northern project. Possible improvements include adding passing lanes along the corridor.
The proposed changes could require buying additional right of way, closing some side roads and entrances, and modifying access to the highway.
During the public information open house, the design team will be on hand to answer questions and take comments regarding these proposed changes.
If you’d like to know more about this meeting or these proposed improvements, you may contact Chuck Oldaker, Area Engineer, at 620-356-1531, or Kirk Hutchinson, Southwest District Public Affairs Manager, at 620-276-3241.
