Man Spits On Officer, Adds To DUI Charge

A 28-year-old Guymon man is behind bars today on a DUI charge after being arrested during a routine traffic stop during the pre-dawn hours on Thursday. But it was what Jason Lyle Hayes did at the Guymon Police Department during an attempted breathalyzer test that made is life a little more difficult.

Instead of just a felony DUI charge, Hayes now also faces a felony charge of Throwing Human Waste on a State, County or City Employee.

According to a Guymon Police Department incident report, the trouble began at 3:36 in the morning Thursday when Officer Dolan Sledge was on patrol at 7th and East. Sledge observed a white 1986 Lincoln Town Car traveling north on East Street. The vehicle swerved left of center and slowed to 5 mph. The officer pulled the vehicle over at 12th and East and upon making contact with the driver, observed slurred speech and smelled an alcoholic beverage.

Hayes was arrested and transported to the Guymon Police Department after verbally agreeing to take an intoxilyzer test.

Once at the station, Hayes refused to take the test, shouting expletives at officers.

Hayes was placed back in handcuffs and while walking to Sledge’s patrol unit for transport to the Texas County Detention Center, Hayes stopped, turned around and spit at Sgt. Francisco Lopez, who was following behind. According to Lopez’s statement, some of the spit hit him on the pant leg.
