Police have arrested two Dodge City residents on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with a shooting death early Sunday and are looking for a third suspect.

Dodge City police investigating the attempted robbery and shooting of 24-year-old Miguel Tol-Juarez obtained arrest warrants Monday for 18-year-old Jesus Jose Rivas Jr., 20-year-old William Henry Edwards III and 16-year-old Miguel Antonio Solis, all of Dodge City.

Rivas and Edwards, who have been taken into custody, are suspected of first-degree murder, aggravated battery and attempted aggravated robbery.

Solis, who remains at large, is suspected of the same charges, along with criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Anyone with information about Solis’ whereabouts should call Dodge City police at (620) 225-8128 or Crime Stoppers at (620) 227-STOP. Residents may also send a confidential tip by texting DCPD and a tip to 847411 (TIP411).

Police and Ford County Sheriff’s officers were called at 3:34 a.m. Sunday to Tol-Juarez’s home at 806 Avenue F in Dodge City for a reported medical problem, according to Dodge City Police Chief Craig Mellecker. Tol-Juarez was unresponsive when emergency personnel arrived and appeared to be suffering from blunt-force trauma injuries, police reported. He was transported to Western Plains Regional Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Police say three suspects entered Tol-Juarez’s home, confronted him and demanded money from him, and he was shot during the confrontation. The three suspects left the area on foot.

Mellecker said Tol-Juarez’s family members were in the home when he was shot.

“It was a robbery,” Mellecker said Friday. “We don’t believe he knew the suspects.”
