Oklahoma Board to Consider A-F Grading System

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – The Oklahoma Board of Education is

scheduled to consider adopting an A-F School Grading System so

parents and students can easily see how their schools are

performing.

The board will consider implementing the plan at its meeting

Thursday. Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi says

it will provide greater transparency for schools.

The Legislature adopted the grading system last year and Gov.

Mary Fallin signed it into law.

It will use school assessment results from the 2011-2012 school

year to determine a ranking designed to encourage parent and

community engagement and a better understanding of school

performance.

Besides test scores, a school’s grade will include student

learning gains, improvement of the lowest 25 percent of students in

reading and math and whole school improvement, among other factors.
