Fire Claims Scott City Mother and Three Children

Three children and a mother have died following a house fire in Scott City.

The fire was reported just after 7 a.m. Saturday morning in the 1100 block of Church Street. The fire started in the laundry room of a two-bedroom house. Flames filled the bedrooms, and Scott City Fire Chief Ken Hoover says there was no way to get out. The fire completely destroyed the home, although neighboring homes weren’t threatened.

Reports say the mother and her three children were taken to a Scott City hospital where one of the children died. The three survivors where then flown to a Wichita hospital. Officials at St. Francis say the second child passed away, followed shortly after by the third child and mother.

The victims’ names and ages have not been released. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say they do not suspect foul play.
