Texhoma Bond Fails

KSCB News - February 15, 2012 8:35 am

Voters in Goodwell and Texhoma went to the polls Tuesday, with Goodwell School Board Seat No. 2 on the line and a $5.6 million bond issue on the ballot in Texhoma.

In the Goodwell School Board Seat No. 2 race, Gerald Mihelic Jr. defeated Ryan J. Hines 63-48.

In Texhoma, 188 voters said yes to the bond proposal and 173 said no — 52 percent for the proposition. But in order to pass, a 60 percent yes vote was needed, meaning the bond failed.

These numbers are unofficial until certified by the county election board.

The Texhoma bond included additions to the existing gymnasium, football stadium and high school, renovations to the high school and middle school, renovations to the auditorium and construction of a new track. The old middle school building would also have been demolished.
