The International Race now has 15 contestants and is closed. The latest entries are Renee Boaldin, 19; Kurstie Zepeda, 18; and Kaela Krueger, 19. Boaldin and Zepeda are first-time racers. This will be Krueger ’ s first time as an official contestant. Last year, as the reigning Miss Liberal, she ran as an honorary racer. Other racers are Leslie Spikes, 29; Patty Ruttledge, 44; Heather Olmstead, 25; Saira Ugarte, 19; Tessy Barnett, 38; Sonya Holman, 26; and Kristen Manning, 26. Also racing will be Amanda Schwab, 49; and her four daughters: Johnette, 22; Kendra, 18; Whitney Hampton, 25; and Nique Brown, 29.
These 15 women will compete against each other and the women of Olney, England, on Feb. 21. The race is wide open this year, as last year ’ s winner, Nicole Schowengerdt, has moved.
Entries are still being accepted for other races, except for some children’s races that are full.
The Men ’ s Pacer Race has five entries so far: John Vaught, 35; Tyson McGuire, 27; Alejandro Avila, 20; Anselmo Borunda, 23; and Sheldon White, 28. The Women ’ s Last Chance Race has one entrant, Jetta Headrick.
The deadline to enter a race is 5 p.m. Friday. Sign-ups are at the Liberal Recreation Center, 1109 W. 7th St. (in Blue Bonnet Park) during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. -5 p.m. through Feb. 10.
The number of entrants allowed in each race is limited to 15, and a category will be closed once that limit is reached. There is no entry fee. No late sign-ups will be accepted.
