Committee To Begin Review Of Tax Codes

KSCB News - January 13, 2012 8:13 am

A hand-picked Kansas commission is beginning
its review of proposed changes in the state tax code, including
those put forth this week by Gov. Sam Brownback.
Senate President Steve Morris, a Hugoton Republican, formed the
commission in the fall of 2011 to study suggestions for lowering
the state’s tax rates. The panel’s first meeting was scheduled for
Friday.
Brownback has proposed reducing the Kansas income tax rates for
individuals and some businesses, with the stated goal of eventually
abolishing the tax.
The commission is also expected to review a similar plan
approved last year by the Kansas House, and a proposal to roll back
the 2010 temporary increase in the state sales tax.
